BRIER PTA BOARD MEETING MINUTES FROM THURSDAY
APRIL 12th , 2007 (Pending Approval)
*Meeting was called to order @ 6:05 pm
*All members were present except Sue Coppinger - excused
*Reviewed and approved by general consent the PTA minutes from 3-8-07.
PRESIDENT'S REPORT:
*Debbie attended the Edmonds Council PTA meeting where the representative from Food services for the Edmonds School District covered the rules for outside food sales on school grounds. As long as we are not selling popcorn during lunch time, we will be in compliance. Popcorn Fridays will be moved to last recess. If a school is caught in violation of this rule it could result in loss of government funding to keep our school lunch costs down.
*The next General PTA Membership meeting has been changed to May 24th (not May 17th). We will be trying to "piggy back" on the musical performance of "Lighten Up".
*The 2007-2008 PTA Elected Board will be meeting later this week. After that meeting, Debbie and the rest of the officers will be working to fill the rest of the board positions.
*PTA Convention is coming. All 5 of the newly elected officers will be attending. In addition to the elected officers, Sue Coppinger will also be attending..
*At PTA Convention this year, our Brier Elementary PTA will be being recognized with the following awards: "OUTSTANDING NEWSLETTER"; "STANDARDS OF EXCELENCE"; AND "PTA HONOR UNIT"! Congratulations everyone! Awards will be handed out at a general session at convention. We have also been nominated for the Outstanding Local Unit Award. Good luck at convention girls.

*Congratulations to our own Mark Givens and his wife - they gave birth to a baby girl earlier this week. 7 lbs. 15 oz. Milie Givens (SPELLING ANYONE????)
*Lock Down drill tomorrow
*WASL testing is beginning next week and will be continuing over the next three weeks.
*The food drive total is unavailable at this time.
*Teacher grade level band grants are getting used. Thank you. They are being used to enhance classroom
libraries.
*Information went home earlier this week on a child luring case. There is no new information to release at this time - per the Snohomish County Sheriff.
TREASURER'S REPORT: (Dated 4-12-07)

*Bobcat Clothing: Cathy F. will be grabbing the new spring clothing to show off.
*Kiln: Jill is working with the teachers who have not yet done a project. There is nothing to purchase at this time, we are hoping to use up some existing supplies.
*Teacher Appreciation: The week slotted for appreciation is May 6th thru the 12th. The office staff will be given gifts, and there will be a group luncheon. EVERYONE will be recognized and appreciated.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
Field Improvements Update:
*Cindy and Debbie will be meeting in the next few weeks to begin moving forward.
On-Line Communication Update:
*The website is up and running. Please provide feedback. The one glitch found to date is when someone from outside uses the web-site to contact a PTA member with a request or question it is funneled through the web-site to us anonymously. However, when we reply it comes from our own personal e-mail address. Bob is working to fix this issue for privacy purposes. The Buzz will also have to be modified to not contain personal information (example no children's first and last names).
Brier Arts Festival Update:
*Volunteers are still needed prior to the event. Maybe we can use the gym on a Monday or Wednesday at the end of the school day (2:00 to 3:30) when not being used by classes to set up a work party. Discussion occurred about having a donation jar by the food table to collect donation for the Arts. This poses a carry over problem in our budget. After further discussion, it was decided that there would be no donation jar. Please keep in mind this is a new format for our school's traditional Open House. Cindy will begin promoting this event in her weekly letter to everyone.
Volunteer Appreciation Night:
*The event is scheduled for June 8th. Nothing new to report. Possible dessert only event. If you have any suggestion or input, PLEASE contact Julie directly.
NEW BUSINESS:
Budget Committee Update:
*Committee will meet a total of 3 times. Penny will e-mail people to set up meetings. The budget needs to be ready for approval at the May General Meeting.
End of the Year Event:
*We will set aside some time at our next meeting to brainstorm this event. Some ideas on the table are: Snow cones; Field day (with relay type events, balloon toss, etc. ); and possibly at Brier Park.
Review
Staff News:
*No news to report at this time. Staff will be involved in Volunteer Appreciation Night. We will need to inform them as soon as possible about what needs to be done.
Brier Buzz:
*Lesa has asked that all items be submitted by April 28th for the Buzz. This will allow her the needed time to create the PDF file for on-line communications.
To Do List:
*Debbie Dunne has the master copy. If you have any questions please contact her.
Meeting adjourned 7:35 pm.
